Brandon Freeman, a cherished member of the Avon community and a talented athlete, passed away tragically following an altercation in Livingston County early Sunday morning. A proud graduate of Avon High School, Brandon played basketball and football during his high school years and was recognized as an All-County and All-Greater Rochester honorable mention selection until his graduation in 2004.
Brandon was well known for his passion for sports and his dedication both on and off the field. His athletic achievements and vibrant personality left a lasting impact on his teammates, coaches, and the community at large. Friends and family remember him as a determined and kind-hearted individual whose love for life and commitment to excellence inspired many.

The circumstances surrounding Brandon’s untimely death began around 2 a.m. on Sunday when the Livingston County 911 center received a report of an individual in medical distress at 60 West Main Street in Avon. Emergency responders quickly arrived on the scene and provided medical assistance. Despite their efforts, Brandon was transported to Strong Memorial Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

Following an investigation, police determined that there was evidence of an altercation at the scene. Jonathan R. Mills, 61, of Avon, was arrested and charged with one count of manslaughter in the first degree. Mills was arraigned and is currently being held at Livingston County Jail with additional charges pending as the investigation continues. Out of respect for the family’s wishes, authorities have chosen to withhold further details regarding the incident and the victim’s identity.

Brandon Freeman’s loss leaves a deep void in the hearts of his family, friends, and all who knew him. His legacy as an accomplished athlete and a beloved member of the Avon community will continue to be remembered and celebrated. A memorial service will be held to honor his life and provide an opportunity for the community to come together in memory of his many contributions.
